Question What to do about vaccines?

The first thing to do is to educate yourself. Don't listen to your sister, best friend or even your vet. Take what knowledge you can get and come to your own conclusions. Many people have debated the topic with themselves. Vaccinate as a pup? Don't vaccinate as a pup? Give boosters? Don't give boosters? Many people came up with the same questions about vaccinations, so people started answering them. Please remember that this is intended for the purpose of educating, discussions can take place elsewhere, in another thread. If you'd like to share links of your own, please do so.

Thanks for sharing these links and info. We, as pet owners, should be be responsible enough to know if a particular vaccine is really suitable for our dogs. A simple mistake could be a disaster.

Absolutely.

[Angel's road to recovery

She is a happy, healthy(for the most part) puppy again, thankfully.

Great idea for a thread Buddy. Good links as well. I only do one vaccine at a time now, and no 'combo' shots. I also very much agree with doing Titers.

What to do if you feel your dog is being over vaccinated
What do you do if you feel your dogs are being overvaccinated?

How do you know what vaccines are necissary every time?

I know the law here for Rabies is that a rabies vaccine is required once every 12 months. (Which is too much where we are moving its every 3 years)

Bordetella vaccine is required by the practice (if you want your dog to go there you get the bordetella

It used to be every year but now they want us to do it every 6 months.

(Our dogs don't go to doggy daycare and aren't boarded.)

How do we figure out what shots are needed and what ones are just to rake up the vet bill?

Also our dog is being treated for tummy issues and they keep pushing that Hills I/D junk for us to buy....the first time we didn't even know we got that until we got home (aren't they supposed to tell you)

They are always trying to push Science diet

Well they vet knows he is allergic to corn and that is a corn based food. Yet they are still pushing it

Last time he was being treated for tummy issues I told them no he doesn't like it, and I don't care for that company....there food lacks in nutrition and I told them what we were feeding.....not a surprise that they didn't know why it was better...much less hadn't heard of it (California Naturals)

How do you deal with situations like that?

I mean I wasn't going to give him a food that would hurt him

Here's an article by Dr. Fox about vaccines. It's more of an exploration of some of the technologies and their broader effects, rather than protocol recommendations, but some might find it interesting. My guy is elderly and a cancer survivor, so we don't vaccinate and all vets have agreed with that since his cancer in 2004.

don't forget to vaccine your dog twice a year because it may be affected any disease easily and don't forget to give rabies vaccine.
