i kinda think that goes without saying ..
besides.. Rocco would never respond to punishment anyways.. i´d have to almost kill him before he would be intimidated, he´s a strange and very tuff dog.. he was taken from his mom way to young and has had alot of behavioral (?) problems as have almost all of his very many brothers and sisters.
he´s a great friend now but it took alot of work and he will probably always be a work in progress.*S*
rewarding is the only way to go.
and my baby girl considers the "evil eye" physical punishment lol.

I agree with not always giving food rewards, i have a Lab that i trained and i NEVER rewarded him soley with treats, i chopped and changed between, treats, verbal praise, a short play session and a good old pat. Being a Lab he is fond enough of food as it is, heaven save me if i used only treats!
A lady that i know trained her dog on soley treats and unless her dog see's a treat it will flat out refuse to do as she commands it.

I always get a pup and they sit and stay before they even eat their first meal. After that they get their regular meals and thats it. No treats at all. Praise is enough.

Works fine for me. I always got a kind word in my pocket for a good dog.

Thanks for sharing this article. I thought it was great. I have always had multiple dogs and watching the "pack" at work while taking myself (ultimate pack leader) out of the situation is always interesting to me.

Nice Info on training the pups....reward for actions you want the dog to do...Most of the K-9 are also trained the same way...Nice info.....
