| Susan the bear, i cant imagine what you would be like if you were "in practice"! that is a well done image, oh i so reallllly do like it very much you are an inspiration Perla what a nicely done graphic drawing. What kind of paper did you use? i like the texture, it really added to your line work. The daily sketch is beginning to take off and that makes me very happy indeed. Now i need to get busy too i have been bad about my new year's resolution.

| you are NOT a really bad drawer! There are quite a bit of very good in your sketch. If you are working off of a photo turn it upside down when you do the eyes. Our minds tend to give us a symbol that we pull up in our minds when it comes to the eye, sort of like the visine logo. IF you turn it upside down you look at it as if for the first time and see what the shape of the eye really is and that will make your drawing look totally different. I spend more time on the eyes then i do on any other part of the drawing being careful to get each little change in the line.

| hehe...was going to suggest that too. If you are working from a photograph, it's interesting to turn it upside down and draw it. It forces you to draw what you actually see...rather than what you think it should look like. Sometimes the left (analytical) side of your brain gets in the way of what your right (creative) side is trying to do. Another thing that's very good for practice (which used to make me crazy but it works!) is to draw the same subject over and over as a series of timed sketches. Start at 15 min, then do one in 10, then 5 and so on until you're down to 15 sec. DO NOT worry about how bad they look or how scribbly. They will be very scribbly! But it's good for getting you to loosen up and get comfortable with the "feel" of sketching. Oh yeah...eyes are tough to do. (you'll notice in that drawing of Fuzzy, they were conveniently shadowed in such a way that i didn't really have to draw them. sneaky, huh.) |
