Talking Middie brag!

Middie was well-behaved today. In public.

And this isn't even an elaborate practical joke.

I took him with me to Lowes for paint, and he was amazing. He actually walked beside me on a loose lead the entire time and ignored people and carts unless someone wanted to pet him. He tried to jump on everyone at least once, but listened to me when I corrected him and sat nicely for them - he just behaved really well over all. When I was getting paint, he just laid down against my heels while we were waiting for the paint to mix.

It's probably stupid to some of you, but he's a totally different dog from when I got him. Even in just the last 8 or 9 months we've made a lot of progress in public. When I first brought him home, a trip like that would have meant he was trying to mark everywhere, towing me around behind him, lunging wildly everywhere, and launching himself several feet in the air to say hello to everyone. He never would have chilled out at my feet, especially not with people walking by.

But today, I actually got multiple compliments on how well-behaved and polite Middie was. I'm so proud of him. He got another muffin as a treat when we got home. The muffins that have been sitting on the counter for a few days and haven't been snarfed down.

That's great though! I always feel good when my dogs improve on anything. Obviously you've been working hard!

I'd given up on him ever doing that, so it comes as a surprise.
