Default SA or Drama Llama?

Neon has developed a new habit at work. I work at a doggy day care, and by law, we can have no more than 10 dogs in the yard per staff member. If we get more then that, we rotate the dogs between the yards and large (think 10x10) kennels every half hour. The kennels have crosshatched bars, and the dogs can see out.
When it's Neon's turn to go up, he will go in the kennel on command, but start leaping up and squealing when he sees me leave. It sounds like he's being squeezed, not a normal noise for him. He gets quiet a few seconds after I leave, and he's fine after that. I've had another staff member moniter it from out of his sight, and he plays with his kennelmates or lays down.
He does not do this at home, or when a solid door closes between us. It seems that the problem is he can actively watch me walk away from him.
Should I be concerned? Is this the beginning of SA, or is he just being theatrical?
It should also be noted that he and Argon are left loose together in the house, and if Neon is crated, he will cry and bark. I'm not sure if this is because he's upset at being left, or jealous that Argon is not crated. If I leave them together, he is fine.
If it is SA, what is the best course of action. I've been ignoring him, and not making a big deal or either putting him up or letting him out.

Its probably something he picked up from another dog at the day care. Lots of dogs squeal and jump up and down on the gate of a kennel or fence when you close them in. It may just be a bad habit he picked up on.

A dog with true SA will go nuts when you leave, regardless of being crated or loose. If you have him in a "proper" sized crate, try putting him in a large crate. If find with my foster dogs, who are all crated at night in proper sized crates and do fine, that they do better in a large crate if they are in it during the day. By large, I mean three or four of the dog would be able to lie down comfortably.
