WHen your child makes you proud

I went to a coop gallery today to inquire about putting the artwork I don't have made yet into it. I am more than stressed over a situation I can't discuss yet. I do not feel I was doing a good job of communicating to the woman. My face is a wreck and I was basically embarrassed to be standing there. I turned and said "this is my granddaughter Hyia" and that was when Hyia beamed a smile, stepped forward held out her hand and said to the woman "Nice to meet you" shook hands and then excused herself politely to look at the artwork. I took the application, asked a few more questions and then said it was time to leave. THat was when Hyia went over and set a small seashell on the counter. Normally I try hard to get her not to do this for I feel she thinks she has to give things to people so they will like her. IT usually makes people slightly uncomfortable and half the time they try to give back whatever it is when her back is turned. If she sees it later her feelings are hurt. THis time they lady exclaimed pleasure at the little shell and thanked her. Hyia beamed another smile (gee I wish i could do that) and said glad you like it and went out the door with a pleasant see you next time. I thought over all what a better job of introducing herself she did over what i was doing. SHe showed confidence, and impeccable manners plus a pretty decent appreciation for what she was viewing. I was kind of amazed and proud. If she handles herself like this in the future I thinks he will do very well.

You should be very proud of her ! And yourself for bringing up such a wonderful gal !!! You and GG have done such a wonderful job and I hope that her mother appreciates it ! Thank God you both are there for her !

She use to go overboard. No matter how hard we tried, she would try too hard, hug strangers...it was an issue. So today i turned and thought Whoa look at you! Kind of a milestone moment. SHe's growing up!

Sounds like she IS growing up, not only that, sounds like she feels more safe and secure in her own skin and with your love.........she isn't "starved for attention" like maybe she was at one time in her life. (not saying that is the case, but it sounds like it might have been)

I know kids who are attention starved at home, they latch on to strangers and do cause them to be uncomfortable, LOL, but the kid just wants love any way they can get it.

Way to go Hy! And you too smkie.........obviously your methods are working

Hyia is going to grow up into a charming young woman, in the traditional sense. She's got her manners now, she's learning grace, you're doing a great job and Hyia is turning out to be an apt pupil.

SHe is certainly growing!!! Out of all the clothes bought at the beginning of the school year. Mom has figured out a way to lengthen some of her skirts but we are going to have to go jean shopping as soon as the end of holiday sales are out there. I think she will be taller than you next time you see her Zoomer.

The confidence was good to see. SHe gets a lot more socialization with me than she did staying with Mom. Aaron says "she was raised in the 1950's there what do you expect!" Which is kind of true. Going to galleries is something she does enjoy which is good for me since it's something i more or less have to do.

Hyia is maturing into a lovely young lady.
