Default Disturbing the Peace

Feeling guilty drying my clothes at 4am.

Thanks to my stupid neighbor who called the cops on me for doing laundry at 5am two weeks ago. Now I can't help to wonder what else am I'm doing to loud because a washer was keeping him up. My washer was not off center and is against my bathroom wall.

Mr.Money bags that don't work better not call the cops on me again for my dryer drying to loud cause I'm not paying a fee for cleaning or doing laundry. I work 2nd shift when else I'm going to get laundry done before I go to work because I sure don't the time when I get up.

Oh man! Did you get it done without incident? It's rough when you're working odd shifts, I did it for years Town noise ordinances are usually from like 10pm-6am and that totally leaves the odd shift people in the cold.

I think doing laundry violating noise ordinances is just a tad extreme, LOL

There are things I miss about apartment living......maintenance, yard work.........but close quarter neighbors are NOT one of them!!

From when to when do you work? Just some food for thought- if your neighbor actually calls the cops in the middle of the night, they probably got woken up from noises from your washer setup. I am not saying I don't understand where you are coming from- and it would have been certainly nicer of them to come and talk to you first before calling the cops.

LIving in an apartment is accepting the fact that there will be noise from the people beside below or above. I spent 4 years in one, never want to do it again, but when I was there I knew that people live and work at different schedules than me. Sorry your neighbor doesn't realize that.

You probably woke him up. Now yes, you say that you work 2nd shift (whatever that means) but have you thought about his schedule/job? I mean, he may have to be up early in the morning, and being woken up by somebody doing laundry would **** me off too. Now yes, taking it to the cops is a bit extreme, but it may not have been the first time it happened. If you do not have time to do laundry when you wake up before work, if you slept while you are doing laundry now, could you not wake up earlier and do it? I mean, you could do a load of wash, and then throw it in the dryer and have the dryer running as you are leaving. or come home, do the wash, and then do the dry while you are leaving?

oh wait, I just saw that you said that he does not work. He could have other things to do still... are you positive that he does not work?

A dryer is not loud enough to be considered in the noise ordinance. Sounds like you've got a real grump for a neighbor.

Would it/could it help to introduce yourself, explain your shift, and ask if there's anyway you could make it quieter for him? Might help for him to know WHY and that you are willing to try and keep the noise down.

Another thought, you may have to do all your laundry for the week on your day off. Sucky? Yes, but better than fines, LOL

He needs to get a life ! I'm sure that this doesn't happen daily ! Ask him if he'll do your laundry !

I wouldve been pissed to if I would have been woken up...

If you work 2nd shift why not get up a little earlier to do laundry, or do it right when you get home? I dont personally see the need for doing laundry at 4/5AM in the morning..

Oh, good grief, a normal washer or dryer isn't loud and if dude is such a light sleeper maybe he needs to sleep with a white noise generator.

Even if the washing machine was off balance and jumps all over the place, calling the cops without first saying something to you (politely) was beyond the pale. Wonder who lit the fuse on his tampon?

I've worked 2nd shift (3-11, usually) and there is no good time to do anything. Your whole life is backwards. The only thing worse is swing shift.
