My mom just got Windows 7 and she LOVES it. I've heard really good things about it elsewhere too.

I HATE Vista.

I'd say go with 7 if you have the choice, that's Kevin's recommendations

Kevin has XP on his laptop, the kids have Vista on their desk top and so do I. I HATED Vista when I had a smaller machine, but now that I have a quad core with a HUGE hard drive and lots of RAM........Vista isn't an issue at all (not for what I do anyway)

BUT........our oldest son is in College at the moment, so of course that means access to lots of software discounts. Kevin just ordered Windows 7 for $30.00! What he plans to do with it I don't know (I think he mentioned putting it on MY machine!)......but he's happy, so I'm happy! LOL

Ubuntu :P

I hate Windows. I hate that I have to use it on my PC simply because Adobe doesn't cooperate with Linux. Luckily, my netbook has XP, the lesser of three evils, and I'll be switching it now that I've found out Ubuntu has a netbook edition.

7, all the way. I've run ubuntu, XP, Vista, and 7, and 7 is the best OS of them all in terms of usability.

Honestly I dont have all the problems with Vista that other people have complained about BUT Windows 7 is much better.... I would get Windows 7 if I had the chance but I am stuck with Vista for now and am not too worried about it!

I just got a new computer yesterday with Windows 7 64 bit version on it. So far so good.

ETA I had Vista, then back to XP on my old computer. 7 is definitely better than Vista.

I have 7 on a new machine I got, it's very nice. Easy to use, easy to manage (for me at least, but I do it for a living). I have Ubuntu on a machine in my music studio. It's a nice distribution but it's far from mainstream. The average person isn't going to be able to deal with any kind of problem that comes up, and there will be problems at some point. I changed monitors and it wouldn't boot because it couldn't figure out the monitor was different. None of my music hardware works on it so I still have the XP machine where I do all my real work.
