Husky mix NEEDS a home.

My mother has a husky mix. he is too wild for her. she cannot even walk him because he constantly pulls and jumps on her, which makes her fall. He is so wild in the house that he breaks things. He is like a bull in a china shop. And my mothers financial situation has her feeding him ol'roy. and now he is tied outside.

She really wants to find him a home, but no one wants a dog so wild. We both think that it would be a bad idea to take him to a shelter because he is black and black dogs are commonly pts. he is very very hyper and we just do not think he would be adopted.

I have tried to work with Gunner some, but he will not even look at you... he just wants to run and jump. He does not respond to treats, or toys. its like he cannot focus on anything.

Does anyone have any idea how we can find this dog a new home? he is a medium sized dog, about 40lbs. NEVER has had any shots, and he is intact. not house broken

He is in Kentucky. Just about 45 minutes away from Nashville TN.
Chaz sometimes does a transport train if we need to get one set up!

that's a toughy. He's got a lot of things going against him (shots, behavior, neuter, ect), I wish I had the room to take him!
I wonder if Joce has anyone who could help you out - I know the guy she works with with Erie Shores seems to specialize in huskies.

How is he with other dogs? Other animals? May I cross post???

yes please cross post! he actually doesnt pay much attention to other dogs. we take him to the dog park sometimes. he just runs around like he is the only one in the dog park!

I am not sure how he is with small animals like cats.

I thought I would help him out some so I tried walking this guy. it was horrible. he spins in circles and jumps on you. I tried to ignore it, and he continued for about 15 minutes, by then I had enough and took him back home.
I thought about taking him and "domesticating" him, but I cannot handle him! I was thinking I would take him home over the weekend and possibly try to house break him. He didnt make it 30 minutes and I took him back home. He ran like wild through the house and ended up breaking a lamp. I put a leash on him in the house and tied him to me, and he just would jump and jump and lick my face, and them mount my leg. I just dont have the patience, and I wonder if there is anyone in the world who does. LOL

I looked for a husky rescue with no luck. thanks for the help

Is there any way to exercise him? It sounds like it's been a long time since he's gotten anything more than a short walk or wandering around the backyard, so he probably has tons of pent up energy. I wonder if you got some of that out of him if he wouldn't be easier to handle.

When we first got Lucy from the shelter, we had to take her to the dog park for an hour to wear her out a bit, and THEN we could practice sit/stay/walking on a leash. If we tried to do it without running around first, she was a wild thing. Does he have prey drive? Has he ever found a dog he likes to wrestle/run with?

Or do you have a rock-solid dog you could work with him with? My friend is fostering a craaazy hound who pulled and jumped and tripped him so badly on a leash he was actually on his butt multiple times just walking around the block. He got a coupler leash and leashed the hound to his malamute/shepherd mix, and the mal keeps the hound in line. I'm not sure how safe that would be with a dog as big as your husky though.

no matter what we do I know that my mother cannot physically keep this dog exercised, nor really afford him.

We do take him to the dog park sometimes. he does burn off some energy that way, but not much. he really doesnt play with other dogs. and he doesnt seem to have a prey drive.
as far as a rock solid dog...both of mine are huge fruit cakes.

If you find a home for him in MI, I can help with transport. There is a rescue up here in MI, Closer to Home Advocates, that deals with Huskies, Mals, and other northern breeds.

I could help with transport, esp if the route comes up here (northern OH). I could temp foster, but NOT long term I know its not much, but I hope that helps a little
