| Okay, BE HONEST (politely honest would be nice ).So I was on my way home tonight and in a hurry but I had to stop in the drugstore and get a toothbrush. So I am on line to pay with my toothbrush, I have been waiting a few minutes and it is now my turn and this lady comes over who is probably about 60, so obviously older then me... but she appears to be in perfect physical condition, walking fine, etc. She says to me "I only have one candy bar, can I get ahead of you?" So I have one item, she has one item... a candy bar so nothing of real importance. What SHOULD the answer have been?

| Back of the line is that way, old bag. At least that is what the voice in my head would say. I'd probably say sure to avoid whispers of being rude. LOL |

| I'd probably let her because I'm a pushover. *sigh* |

| I would like to say that I would smile and say "I only have one item as well, I'll be done in two shakes and then it'll be your turn." But I probably would just let her go in front of me. She put you a difficult spot though, I think it was rude of her to ask.

| I dunno what the "right" answer would but i dunno, shes older.. its easier for me to stand in line for a lil while longer than her, I would just let her go first. Kinda like a respect your elders sorta thing.. like giving your seat up on the bus lol then again, I let older people in front of me in line even when they don't ask lol its weird..I always feel like they are somebodys nice grandma/grandpa

| I agree.... One item takes seconds, if I have a fair bit and someone comes in line behind me with one or two items, I usually offer for them to go ahead, no matter their age....

| I don't think there's a right or wrong answer. If I felt sympathetic towards her, I would've said "sure." Maybe I'm in an uncharitable mood or that irritates me or I get bitch vibes from her and then it would have been a cheery smile and an "Oh! I only have one item too!" and I would proceed to the checkout. Like Fransheska said though it usually feels the "rightest" to let older people do as they please. So I guess that's probably what I would've done.

| "I am sorry mam, but no. We all have to wait our turn." Its what I would do to show Hannah how to do it. Again, I have to ask... Why do people live in NYC on purpose? LOL ![]()

| I'm just not a confrontational rude person. I would have let her go ahead. I'm a "Yes, ma'am" kind of person. It is soo ingrained in me to show respect that I'd find it VERY hard to tell her no. If I had a bunch of items, she wouldn't even have to ask, for I'd ask if she'd like to go in front. As to whether that is "right", I dont know..especially because it seems she's using her age to take advantage of other people. |

| For sure and that goes for anybody not just an older person.
