Default Excessive Nose Bleeds...

I've been getting nose bleeds on a daily basis; but last night was over the top. I woke up and one of my nostrils was literally spilling blood, and right when that one was done, the other one started. By the time it ended, my pillowcase was halfway covered with blood. I'm thinking this isn't normal to have blood dripping out of your head in such large amounts...?

What kind of heat do you have? Is the air too dry? Sometimes that irritates your mucus membranes and little capillaries break. Have you been blowing your nose too hard or anything? What do you do to try and stop the nose bleeds?

You might try having a big 10 qt. pot full of water on the stove on low during the time you're at home and moisturizing the air more. Or buy one of those humidifiers.

You can put a VERY thin layer of neosporin or vaseline on a q-tip and spread it inside your nose. Just be VERY careful not to put more than a miniscule, thin layer. You don't want to aspirate any clumps of that stuff into your lungs.

Are you taking aspirin? Or any other blood thinning drugs? Lay off that for a while, if you are....if you can.

If that doesn't work over the next 3-4 days, go see a doctor. I hope it will clear up.

No, it isn't. You need to check your blood pressure, for one thing. You might also have a blood vessel that's very close to the surface and is being irritated by allergens.

But do check your blood pressure. Some of the others with medical training can give you better advice, too, I'm sure.

I have the same problem. For the past two weeks I've gotten at least two nose bleeds a day. I've been this way ever since I was a kid. Happens a lot in the cold, dry winter, and also whenever it is just really hot out in the summer. Never been to the doctor for it, so I'm not any help to you in figuring out why.

Hope you're able to 'cure' yours. I sure haven't! Lol

step 1:
get your blood pressure checked

step 2: get a humidifyer, if you have a wood stove fill a big stove pot with water (and a few drops of eucalyptus oil if you can find it) make sure there is ALWAYS water in that pot...personally id get a humidifyer for the bedroom as well as a pot if its a wood stove. if its electic or gas or pellet get a good humidifyer.
this time of year is horrible for nose bleeds as the heat dryies the mucus membranes causing agrivation.

step 3: if your blood pressures fine and adding a humidifyer doesnt work see an ear nose and throat doctor.

my brother used to get terrible nose bleeds...wouldnt stop kind of bleeds...the dr wanted to cauterize the offending vessle, but adding a humidifyer solved the issue!

High blood pressue may aggrivate a nose bleed, but is not usually the only cause.

Have you had a sinus infection lately? Been on anti-biotics? Asprin or other blood thinning drugs? Have you had any injury recently...getting hit in the nose or picking at it? Do you have liver disease? That and some other conditions are rare but can mess with clotting. Do you have a vit. K deficiency? Do you get enough calcium?

Sit upright with you head normally positioned. Don't put your head backwards. Put direct pressure to the outsdie of your nose...like pinching it closed fairly firmly. And hold it like that without letting go for no less than 10 minutes. Do not disturb the clot once it stops, by blowing, picking or messing with your nose. What you can do is breathe in ever so slightly to let a tiny bit of air pass over the clot, firming it up. Leave it for a long time without doing anything with it.
