Default Licking Problem

So my lil pup (mini schnauzer) has been licking his rear for the past few days, in the same spot (just on one side), A LOT these past few days, especially in the evening when I get home from work. His stools have been regular, he is acting normal, he doesn't appear to be sick in any way.....he just licks and licks and licks and it's kind of turning red by the time he stops. We're planning on taking him to the vet soon for a check up anyways, but anyone know why he may have started to do this all of a sudden? can it be worms of any sort? or bug bite? hmmm ... it's been a week almost and we can't get him into our vet until tuesday

Sounds like a hot spot. I'd put a tshirt or something on him so he can't get to the spot he's licking.

It could be something with his glands? Where exactly is it? On his rear or on the skin around it..

I had the same thing with one of my dogs. The vet said his anal glands were okay but it could possibly be allergies. I gave him Benedryl each day which helped to clear it up but would come back as soon as the Benedryl stopped. We decided to change his food to California Natural which is good for dogs with allergies and now it's all cleared up. I was thinking it was something outside, but it must have been something in the original food.
