Default Kibble you like?

Hello,

My sister has an 8.5 month poodle-golden retriever mix. He has been on Purina One Large Breed puppy since they got him, but they are switching him to an adult food since he was just neutered, and would like to switch to a higher quality food while they are at it. I referred her to the Dog Food Project website, but she found it a little overwhelming, and wanted a list of recommendations instead. I know this has been discussed before, but I was wondering if you could throw out some brands you like? Also, would foods with high protein contents cause problems at his age? So far I have:
Kirkland Chicken and Rice (I use it for my two because of cost constraints, but she may be able to spend more than me)
Innova
California Natural
Canidae
Blue Buffalo
Thanks in advance!

Taste of the Wild and Solid Gold are others I can think of that are decent/better quality I'm pretty sure Taste of the Wild is the cheapest grain free kibble out there and my dog has done great on it since she was 4 months old. ToTW is an all life stages formula so there shouldn't be any problems with the protein content at all.

I like Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble

They rate kibbles by stars, so you can pick any 4+ star food and feel pretty good.

I feed Acana Provincials (aka Grain Free) and I rotate between the 3 grain free types. I have been on the Pacifica bag for awhile now because he is doing amazing on it. Great coat, energy, clean teeth, no odour, healthy ears, skin, ect.
Their website provides a total nutritional and ingredient breakdown too, so I feel confident feeding it and it’s on the Dog Food Analysis website if you want to read their review as well.

Also, as a personal choice, I am weary of introducing a high protein feed to I try and stick to the mid to low 30 percentile as a general rule which the Acana feeds do, without sacrificing quality.
Here is the website – Champion Petfoods | ACANA | Our Products
Good luck!

Ours have been doing really well on Diamond Naturals for about six months or so now. No corn, no wheat no soy or by-products. It comes in 40lb bags, and is affordable if on a budget.

Do they make a small bite formula?
