Default Yorkie vs. Silky

I've had a number of people tell me my dog is a Silky Terrier, but I think they're thrown off by his size, weighing in at 12.5lbs. I've seen some bigger Yorkies in my lifetime and they used to be bigger dogs than what they're known for today. I don't care either way what he is, but I'm just curious your opinions. Yorkie or Silky? I can never tell the two apart.

Where did you get him from? Am I seeing this right--he still has his tail too?

I say yorkie! just a teapot one lol

I dug these up online, hope it helps!

Q. What is the difference between a Yorkshire Terrier and the Silky Terrier?

A. The Yorky should not weigh more than 7 pounds, however most pet quality Yorkies are as big as the Silky, and they have a thick coat that drops right to the ground. Yorkies have a shorter muzzle, larger eyes and a domed head. The Silky head is more solid with small eyes and flatter skull. The Yorky’s color must be a dark gray with rich tan. The Silky may be almost any shade of gray with tan legs and silver or fawn topknot. An adult Silky will occasionally "Brown out" the coat will become a Champagne or tan color This doesn't happen very often and there is no way of knowing what puppies will change . The Yorky topknot is always put up in a bow, the Silky is not. The Yorky is more common with an average of 68,000 litters and 137.000 dogs registered annually as compared with 1200 Silky litters and 2100 dogs. With the heavy over breeding of the Yorky they have more genetic problems and fewer quality breeders. The Yorky has a true "toy dog" temperament the Silky more of a low keyed Terrier temperament

The most noticeable difference at first glance is the silky’s hair, which is finer and thinner than the yorkshire terrier. The silky terrier’s body build is also different in three ways, which may be obvious to an experienced yorkie fan but not to the untrained eye. First of all, the silky terrier’s body is longer in proportion to the entire body than the yorkie. Second difference: silky terriers have a longer nose while the yorkshire terrier nose is shorter and flatter. Third difference: The silky terrier’s body sits higher than the yorkie’s, giving the silky a leaner appearance. The yorkshire terrier’s body is short and squaty, and really cute! The silky terrier’s body is, like I said, longer and placed higher, although the placement of the torso is considered moderately low set when compared to dogs in general

HES A CUTIE! and I love your puggle lol

Yep! He's still got his tail! I love it.

I got him from a non-reputable breeder, so it's not like she was breeding to standard or anything. She never docked the tails or removed dewclaws or anything. I learned about BYB's after getting Jackson.
