 Ruckus paw pad amputation update here is the thread possible double paw pad amputation??? I cannot believe that I am just now remembering to update you guys! well, he didnt get it. I decided to wait a couple of weeks. I have no idea why I decided to wait because the vet told me that it was not going to heal. well, it healed. after more than two years, it finally healed. I tried everything. you name it! (go on, name it, i know i tried it!) I have 20+ products for dogs paws, even for sled dogs, and cell reviving cream... Guess what worked! Burt's Bees medicated lip balm! that and not walking on anything but grass for a couple of weeks. It healed it! but if I dont put in on every couple of days his paws start to crack all over. There has to be an underlying condition  The vet I am using thinks that it is allergies.

| I'm glad you waited!! It does sound like a contact allergy and grass is a very common culprit. Will he wear baby socks or something when you take him out?

| we bought shoes but he hates them, and so do i. maybe we just need to get over it and make him wear his boots. or buy him some dif. boots. the boots he has now rub blisters on him, yet will not stay on!

| I'm glad it healed. Whew! Good for you that you decided to try that Burt's. That is good stuff. Yeah, it sounds like he needs to wear something as a barrier to the grass. He doesn't have a problem with his other feet? I hope he continues to improve!

| yeah thats what gets me. If its a grass allergy you would think that it would not heal if he was only walking on grass. so it beats me what is going on. I kept him off of hard surfaces until it healed. maybe he has some sort of Zinc deficiency?

| paw soreness is most commonly a food allergy, (i dont knwo why but food alergies seem to effect the feet above all else) it might be worth getting him an alergy panel to see exactly what hes alergic to... since hes not happy about wearing BOOTS, you could try modifying baby socks, sew some velcro to the ankle cuff so you can tighten it enough to keep them on. buy a little bottle of that puff up fabric paint. put the sock on and draw a little circle where his foot hits the ground take the sock off and fill the circle with the puff paint (this when cured is actually none skid) cure/set as directed, socks go on, velcro to tighten and tada, a light weight SNUG pair of doggie booties for dogs that cant stand the heavier weight/bulkier doggy shoes.
