| I wonder if it was cut for a tree house or something then grew against the floor of the srtucture. Odd

| No marks of a tree house..occasionally you find one with some mega big nails in them. BUt this is not where anyone would build a treehouse, it is far off the path in a pretty secluded section of the woods. Not down by anything cool like the creek. WE did have someone who climbed this insanely straight enormous tree and tied a rope so they could swing out over a 30+ cliff. I use to look at it all the years I was growing up and wonder how in the world they got up there. A new rope every year and then it stopped. The old one didn't come down until it rotted off. No one with an ounce of sanity would have swung on it. ONe year there was a set of wires with a stick across to hang on. IT is the cliff where VIctor is standing on the look out point. I Think this is some bizarre natural growth. IF it has any thickness to it and isn't corky it might make a really interesting table top. It is probably 20 feet up.

| Wow, those are some impressive burls! Those would probably make some cool bowls or other turnings! Is that an oak tree?

| THAt one is gynormous..it looks about the size of a 50 lb bag of dog food. IT is not an oak, the leaves are small. THe oaks still have their leaves on them and are very impressive. I am not sure what it is, I will pick one up tomorrow and look it up. here is the best shot I have of the tree where the rope swing hung and how far it is down to the ground below. You had go be insane to go up there in the first place. I have no idea how they did it. Nor how they had the guts to swing on it afterwards and nor how they didn't break their neck. | Beautiful tree photos. That first one reminds of a bracket fungus in shape. The edges can furl upwards like that. Bracket fungus image by edtyler on Photobucket But the formation in your photo seems to be part of the tree. I've never seen anything like that.
