| AKA Lickaboo, Sheebs, Sheebies, Bubby Girl, et al. was put down last weekend. She was 16 years old and just couldn't get around quite as well as she used to. Couldn't stand up on her own the majority of the time and was refractory to steroids and other medications, so being out of options and deciding her QOL just wasn't quite what we'd like her to have, we had her PTS. But she had a good run. Technically 4 years past her 'expected' age for her size range/breed type, and it was a long time coming. This one's especially hard because she's the only dog I fully remember picking out as a puppy (or actually she picked us out at the humane society because every time we walked by her enclosure [where she was with a couple other puppies] we would see the black of her nose poking up into the air over and over as she tried to jump up to see us). But at least she's in a 'better place', wherever that might be to the individual. She's a very gentle dog (taken primarily from her Golden Retriever side I'd assume) with very strong protective instincts (German Shepherd part). For a female dog of her size, her bark was tremendous and she was sure to let you know if anyone so much as looked at the house. Heaven forbid they should walk onto the property. Very playful too, loved to play rough but she always knew when to cut it out, or when you just wanted to hug her instead. One of those 'perfect dogs' you hear so much about. Anyhow, here's my Sheebie girl about a year or two ago I think. Wish I had younger pictures of her but digital cameras weren't around in the early years of her life. She was, essentially, the cutest puppy that ever existed. ![]() One of the worst parts was when we were taking her out to the car, before we picked her up off the floor, Leo went up to her and licked her face. He never does that (or not that I'd ever seen over his 9 year life span thus far). I don't think he understood the extent of it, but he knew something was definitely wrong that day. When we came back alone, he stood at the door for a long time as if to say "wait, you forgot someone" and eventually went through all the rooms of the house and then just laid down for a while after that.

| (((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))) GO. It's rough, and I know with your training you've talked yourself through all the reasons this was for the best, but it's still hard. You did right by her, and you can see all the love in those eyes of hers in that photo.
