Default purebred husky? Lol

A friend of my hubby just got a new dog. She is convinced it is a purebred miniature Siberian Husky.

Anyone want to take guesses of what it actually is? I can't quite put my finger on it. What do you think it could be mixed with?

I guess the dog is only about 4 months old right now, but it is too small boned and there's no husky at all in the face/body structure.

Are they really? They're all over at my dog park. (Okay, not ALL over, but there are more shibas than a lot of other breeds, save mutts & labs!) I wonder why this area has so many.

Depends on your area. I don't know about Ohio, but Shibas aren't uncommonly found in shelters and such around here. FOHA has pulled and adopted out at least three shibas in the past two years. (Although, compared to the 1290848754 labs/shepherds/hounds, I guess that still makes them "rare" )

I'm going to throw out American Eskimo Dog, because I know that, at least here on the East Coast, they have been growing in popularity.

I wouldn't classify shibas as that rare anymore... We've had quite a few come through our shelter while I worked there. We even had a pregnant shiba that gave birth to a litter of purebred pups!
