I can see what you're saying, but to just say that any great thing any president has ever done is.. I don't know, not that great just because it's his job doesn't seem right to me either.

The only stuff he's done is domestic affairs. He hasn't done anything on the achieving 'peace' field other than set the Iraq war on a supposed path that will end it. Whoo.

Let's see him bring a legit democracy and peace to Iraq and establish them with a decent life free of tyranny. THAT would be worthy.

Uh what? It's racist to realize what a great accomplishment it was for a person that isn't white finally made it to presidency? But okay, I'd rather appreciate the accomplishment than be ignorant of it, if that makes me "racist" so be it.

Yes, it's racist to give him an award based solely on his color. He's the first black president, whoo. I'm glad it happened, but I don't think that's going to do anything to bring peace in the world. If nothing else, it's merely incited more of the lunatics. He can't help that, but it's not worthy of a reward either. Recognition that it happened? Yes, because it is a momentous event, but there's other people doing more things that could do more with the money out there.

Or like that one guy I posted, someone who more or less saved the world? He got reprimanded for not doing his job (to press the red blinking button) vs recognized for thinking clearly and avoiding a catastrophic event which would have drastically, drastically changed the world we live in today. He may not be active today in charities and what not but he not only set in motion the ending of a war, he prevented one entirely.

As far as race.... ditto iibao... he is half black and some even debate that lol Not really trying to diminish his accomplishment because Lord knows it's an ACCOMPLISHMENT but say something for what it is.

If there is to be a Peace award for him making it to office (and there shouldn't be) it should go to the American people not him, because it's the population that is peaceful enough to accept him. That he isn't white and elected doesn't say much about him as a peaceful person, in and of itself. It's the country's population that allowed that to happen.

Now the thing I didn't know that kinda "voids" this is that the Peace award is also awarded to "promote existing efforts." That being the case, sure, it's appropriate... not what I personally think a Nobel Peace Prize should be about and he still wouldn't be my personal choice for it, thus far into his career, but of course I'm a spectator lol. I'll stand by what I said before, it is just a continuation of the flattery people dish upon him because he's special and charismatic. Results, well, they remain to be seen.

Well, so he's half-black, but there's never been a half-black president either. Children from "mixed marriages" in history haven't been looked upon as "equal" citizens, either. Racist white people rejected them, and so did racist black people.

I quite like Obama, but I also admit that I was surprised he got it. I think he HAS made our country more positive and done quite a bit to shift the viewpoint, and I also think he's done more than "nothing," but it seems too soon for a supposedly prestigious, difficult award.

Whether it was rewarding Jimmy Carter for criticizing the Iraq War or supporting Al Gore in his crusade against global warming, the Norwegian Parliament - which chooses the winners of the Nobel Peace Prize - has sought to use the award as a political tool to influence American politic s. Its prestige and moral power make the prize a potent weapon with which to help steer the direction of the colossus beyond the seas that controls a quarter of the world's economy and most of its military power.

Now, the Norwegians have weighed in to support Barack Obama in his bid to reshape America so it looks more like, well, Norway, or at least like Europe.

European socialism cannot succeed without conquering the United States. If the European Union has high taxes and the US keeps its levies low, business and brains will flow to America. If the EU's labor standards require long vacations, high benefits, and proscribe layoffs and ours' do not, employers will migrate across the ocean to do their business in the States. If the Old World curbs ambition by taxation, regulation, and social opprobrium, the ambitious will flock to the New World as they have done for four hundred years.

So, Lenin was right. Socialism cannot exist in just one country - or one continent. It must dominate worldwide or wealth and power will flow to those who remain committed to the free market. Europe realizes this reality and it makes Obama's election as president of the United States all the more welcome.

The Nobel Prize is really Obama's payback for disciplining the unruly United States and taming it to be a member of the European family of nations. Europe wants to reverse the American Revolution and re-colonize us and it sees in Obama a kindred spirit willing to do its bidding.

Does the United States let its entrepreneurs run wild, coming up with fanciful new ideas and making billions from them? Obama will regulate and subdue business just like they do in Europe. Do U.S. businesses compete by slashing prices, aggressively pursuing markets, and jockeying for market share? Obama will make them behave themselves and stay in line just like European companies do. Do Americans work hard and push aggressively to make as much money as they can? Obama will raise taxes, emphasize community values, and narcotize their ambition by offering government largesse.

And does the United States still believe in a sloppy, contrarian democracy in which ordinary people can directly affect their government, states have powers, and courts can reel in executive authority? Obama will use his rubber stamp majority in Congress to pass new laws regardless of public opinion and make us obey.

In foreign policy, is the United States still willing to stand up, alone if necessary, to protect human rights in Bosnia, in Iraq, and in Afghanistan? Obama will curb this unruly independence and mold it within the fabric of appeasement that has dominated Europe for the past half a century.

All this heavy lifting, this conversion of America into a European state, deserves a reward. And what is a more fitting one than to give Obama than the Nobel Peace Prize? He obviously doesn't deserve the award for economics or, given his health care ideas, for medicine. But the Peace Prize expresses Europe's longing: to take back the nation its overly ambitious and uppity children founded.

Oh come on now, Im bashing Norwegians, not Christians this time. The Vikings of Norway were the super power until they adopted Christianity. I dont hate your god, dont even know him, I just love the Vikings. Nothing was heard of them since those days until Quisling...I dont even wanna go there.
