| I'm so glad both of them are going to be okay but my god what an idiot!! Heck even if she was being attacked randomly firing in the direction of the dog is a good way to kill the person too. Poor woman and poor dog!

| I would think that if the woman was yelling help or something than she was being attacked but that does not seem to be the case. Still if she was actually being attacked which she was not it does not mean that a gun is the best way to stop the attack because of the proximity of the person to the dog. The cop was not justified in using a gun in my opinion and as someone earlier stated to find this cop another job I do not agree with. What they should do is fire this cop for discharging their weapon in an unsafe manner and never to be a cop again. Let them find their own job.

| It must be tough being a cop. There's always the potential to make a mistake that will cost so much.

This individual cop has made it painfully obvious he is not suited to the job. You don't even use a gun to stop a dogfight between dogs, it's happening too fast and there is too high of a risk of injuring the defending dog. I can NOT imagine how anybody would think it's a good idea to shoot in the direction of a person, even if it had been a real attack. The headline easily could have been "Woman shot and killed by cop during dog attack". Just as you wouldn't want someone who vomits at the sight of blood to be an EMT, I wouldn't want someone with such poor judgment to be a cop. I hope his butt gets kicked to the curb.
