Default Russian Toy Terriers

So I was browsing different toy breeds when I stumbled across these guys...

They're wicked adorable!!! They're not AKC yet (at least they weren't under their breeds) according to the breed club you can show them at UKC...

Anyway, does anyone on here know anything about them?

Here's some pics:

and the breed club website:

All I know is there's two different coat types. There was pap crossed back in there to get the fringed ears on the longcoats according to some. I could definitely see that.

I've never met one, but the pap people I know that have met them have given them poor reviews on temperament. They said they seem more prone to temperament problems and just didn't have the outgoing attitude that paps have. They also said their coat and fringe is a lot finer and seems to mat more. They're also from what I hear very tiny- chi sized almost.

I'd like to meet one one day just to see. It may just be a difference in preferences.

I looked into them a long time ago. The ones in America basically weren't worth looking at, you'd have to import. Been a while, there may be some decent ones now.. but you may still wanna import.

There were 2 in my obedience course and I wasn't very impressed. they looked kind of like a poorly bred chi mixed with a papillon and they were very shy and the owners said being shy was "normal"

they looked like the dog in the 2nd picture, not the first.

yeah mafia, from what I could find about them import seemed to be the way to go...

Maybe it's just the american ones with all the problems?

When I was browsing the euopean breeders sites(granted some of them weren't in english) they seemed like really nice dogs. There were lots of pics of them with other dogs and snuggling with people...as well as a lot of show win pics...

But, It seems that they were very heavily crossed with the chi, and so they still have a LOT of chi traits.

yes, chihuahua played a huge part in creating the breed, i belive they added pap, and manchester in there too.

in terms of temperment, ive heard mixed reveiws of imported dogs. its normal for the breed to be "shy" and "standoffish" no matter where its from, us bred dogs tend to be more so but it is a trait of the breed.
they are very much a "one person" kind of dog, much like a chihuahua is...they have one family memeber whos their favorite person, they will go t other people if their particular person is not available but they do tend to bond very strongly.

my suggestion if your interested in them (i love wowies, and think what others might find undesirable traits are actually endearing) reaserch all you can about chihuahuas and manchester terriers, most RTT's seem to display the most desirable and undesirable traits of both these breeds.

in terms of size and looks most do actually look like some of the "deer type" long haired chihuahuas and are about the same size.

Thanks Foxy!

I think I've decided if I do go with a toy breed it will be a pap though. They're easier to find in the US and they have the personality that I want.

Maybe that's why pap people tend not to like them much.... paps have a really outgoing personality. Foxy have you ever met a Russian Toy before? I'm just kind of curious about them. I seriously doubt I'd ever go with a toy breed other than a pap though (and if I did, it'd be a crestie) but I'm curious, lol.
