As I have said before, I am planning to get a new Bitch puppy to be the start, and foundation of my new breeding program. I have done a lot of thinking, and soul searching to find a breeder that really fit what I wanted in a puppy.
I wanted a very well bred terrier, preferably with an "older" pedigree, from a breeder with an intense focus on work and performance along with wonderfully put together terriers. I do not want a terrier with over-angulation and the stretchy look that seems to be in right now... I was looking for lines I know, and a breeder with a strong focus on paying attention to Eye problems in the breed, and one who is known to be open, honest and upfront about any issues in his/her terriers pedigree's. Likely most important, I wanted a breeder whom has terriers able to get the job done, with great solid minds and the ability to come home and be a member of the family! This will be my foundation and one I will likely breed in the future to a stud from Ado's kennel as she has some of my favorite terriers in her lines. After quite a bit of deliberating and talking back and forth with the breeder whom I know from my terrier days, I have decided that I am going to send off a deposit!! It could be quite a wait, as she does not breed as often anymore, but the wait will be worth it!!! There are other options open to me, but considering what I am looking for, this is one of the very few breeders that meets my desires... I just hope the wait does not kill me... LOL This is her kennel: Sow's Ear Farm Jack Russell Terriers, Breeder of Quality Jack Russells for Hunt, Show and Companions Last edited by LauraLeigh; 05-10-2009 at 03:46 PM. |

Grammy, lol hardly a puppy mill on any level. And her dogs are absolutely proven working terriers, combined with the fact that she has won countless conformation champions, JRTCA National Champions in several events and often with the same dog/s. Meaning her dogs are extremely versatile. I do believe she is the only breeder to have a dog (bitch) that won the JRTCA Nationals 12.5 - 15 inch over Racing Champion & Best Working Bitch (possibly Best Working Terrier (highest honor in Jrtca Conformation) and was a Bronze Medillion (proven working terrier to three different quarry[not a the game, the real thing in hunting] and all the same year at Nationals. I don't think anyone has done that before or since, it was history to be sure.
And all her dogs live in the house, temperament is paramount with this breeder as well as health clearances. Her dogs all sleep, eat and live together and she doesn't tolerate dogs that poke holes into each other. She told me once that she has to live with the dogs, to really know them and she would never breed a dog that shows aggression other than in the working field to quarry. Laura, lol I can't wait, ah those lines crossed with mine, how exciting!! |

I know less than nothing about JRTs, and not much more about breeders, but you've clearly done your research and planning! Congratulations!
It looked to me like almost all of hers are rough-coated (is that the correct term with jacks?). Does that mean yours will be? I always see the smooths around here, but I love those scruffy little faces!

I prefer a light broken coat for ease of grooming and really find a true Rough hard to keep up with on that front. I am very, very pumped about a pup from her lines!! It will be a wait, at the earliest maybe late summer, unless something crops up. I promise though, Chaz will get pics as soon as I do! |
