Red face "Flavoring" Their Water

Zane has begun to add "flavor" to thier water bucket. Yesterday I was out getting stuff from my car, when all of a sudden I hear that unmistakable sound of water going into water, and turn around to see Zane peeing in his water. So from now on I clean it out once a day. He is neutered, nothing in our house has changed, so we have no idea why he started. He is not trying to mark the sides, because he has to position himself directly over it in order to get it in there. Anyone seen anything like this?

We have plastic wading pools for the dogs during the summer, and there was a little dog I worked with who would pee in the pool, then get out and drink the water from the pool. Now, I understand doing both behaviors individually, but to pee, and then immediately drink from where she peed, was a little weird. But, she was a strange dog anyway so we just attributed it to that.

I used to have one who as a puppy would potty in his food bowl then cover it up if he was going to have an accident in the house. (Made it very easy to clean up, but I'm still trying to figure out (A) how he came up with the concept and (B) how he actually DID it!)

As for Zane, maybe he wants you to change his water more?
