I would LOVE a Nikon D40, or D60, but obviously cannot afford a camera at that price. So, I've been looking, but decided to check and see if there were any suggestions for a good camera, or if you could give me an idea of the camera or camera types to steer clear of? I'm trying to stay away from Kodak's, because I had one and it SUCKED.
Are all Nikon cameras good, or is it just the D40+ Nikons that take incredible pictures...? Thank youu!

Have you thought of buying a used D40? If you really want a SRL I would check Ebay and Craigslist ect. Just make sure the camera is still usable. A used D40 works perfectly fine.
For Point & shoots I prefer canons. I have my canon powershot 540 which is an awesome little camera.

Check Adorama (I think .com) I got my D40 for around $600 with two lenses (though I paid more as I kept getting doodads. LOL)
And really, from all I hear, is that the D40 is basically the same as the D60 and D80...

IMO, the D40X and the D60 are really just the same thing.
If I were going to get a P&S I would go with a Canon PowerShot. If you want a DSLR I would go with Nikon. My mom has a P&S Nikon and it's. . .not that great. My old Canon PowerShot (bought for around the same price) takes way better pictures.

the main difference between the d40x and the d60 is that the kit lens for the d60 comes with vr. There's more here: Nikon D60 Digital SLR Compared to D40x and D40
If you do get the d40 it's important to know that you will be very limited in the lenses you can use. Compact canon cameras always get pretty good reviews but we still don't know how much you are wanting to spend |
