I don't like the massive jowls on these dogs, honestly. But that might be correct for the breed... i just don't care for the look (or the drool).

And I agree with shadow that the poor puppy looks like a mess. =(

Bandit has slight jowls that cause him to drool more than the average border collie. Or at least, so I have noticed. I think they're awful cute and fun to kiss.

I personally prefer a look somewhere inbetween. Not overly lanky but not so wide either. I am not educated on danes however. So this is simply me stating what pleases my eye with no grounds to hold my judgement.

actually the original dane was heavier & less jowly. in fact it was confirmationally almost identical to the dogo argentino. the addition of sighthound caused the slabsided narrow chest & some scenthound caused the long rectangular high peaked head so popular in the USA.
