Zoom brought up Euro Great Danes in another thread, and I've fallen in love with them. They're much stockier, broader and bulkier than the Dane we have here. Impressive!

now if only the heads didn't resemble neo mastiffs...blech

The interesting thing to me is that I've seen danes at handling class with that amount of bone- and they're in no way from European lines- just long-time breeders who have been breeding and showing successfully since the 60s! Thye've got the prettier American heads, too.

i like the german ones i've seen that aren't quite as heavy as these but heavier than almost all american danes. i wouldn't hesitate to put the eurostock on hogs.

Yes but those kind of breeders are NOT the norm, SADLY...if they were i would LOVE IT...just like i would like to see boxers that carried more substance, there are some, but they are def. NOT the norm.

I like the 2nd one a little, but I like the third one alot. I like to see a nice bit of substance, but I don't like the overexaggerated dogs that some people are putting out.
I think I recognize the lines of #2. Not bad lines if it's who I think it is, but some of the dogs are WAY overdone and look like sumo wrestlers who couldn't wrestle their way off of the sofa. And maybe it's just me, but the puppy's feet look a hot mess. The foreleg is bowed out, the pasterns look scary and the feet look flat. The feet on the first one look awful too. Here's a very awesome article on Euro danes in comparison to American danes if anyone is interested. Linky

I prefer the leaner Great Danes with longer legs and leaner body. How much stress does this extra weight put on their joints and bones? Their bones are probably thicker, but still.
