Default Woman sells her neighbors dogs

O_o

Quote:
COLUMBIA, Pa. -- Columbia Borough police have charged a woman in connection with selling two of her neighbor's dogs online.

Brandi Anderson is charged with theft of mislaid property.

Police also have a court order to get records from Craigslist pertaining to the sale of Theresa Abrams' dogs.

Dogs Ran Out Back Gate

Theresa Abrams, of Columbia, said her three dogs, Selena, Tess and Dusty, ran out her back gate last week.

Selena returned, but Abrams said the next night, she found Tess and Dusty for sale on the Web site Craigslist.

After some digging online, Abrams said she found out Anderson was the seller.

Anderson said that she found the dogs dirty and without tags and didn't know the owner.

She said that she kept the dogs for three days, then sold them so they'd have a good home.

"She made a profit on something that belonged to me that she had no right to take," said Abrams.

The neighbor wrote on the Craigslist posting that the dogs belonged to her grandmother who recently died.

Anderson wrote on the Craigslist posting that the dogs belonged to her grandmother who recently died.

Brent Smith, of the Columbia Borough Police Department, said Anderson told them she made up the story because she didn't think anyone would want to adopt a stray dog.
Sounds like the neighbor was greedy and just wanted to make a quick buck.

I've got to say, though, that the owner doesn't seem . . . all that concerned.

The owner is mad that the neighbor made a profit that should have been hers

That's my impression, too. Not so much "OMG, you did WHAT with my dogs?!" as "that money should be mine!"

People suck. That's been my general discovery of the day. Sort of like the people at a Yorkie "Rescue" asking a $500+ adoption fee. Yeah, no. A secondhand puppymill, not a rescue.

I'm not saying it was the things to do , but maybe the neighbor thought that the dogs would be better off in another home . Still , she shouldn't have sold them !

Some Yorkie "rescue groups" have ""adoption fees" of up to $2,000.

Looking for a New Home...

Hmm, I can't seem to find anything anything in the PA state law about the stray hold, although the Humane League of Lancaster County (which is where I believe Columbia is) claims that the legal stray hold according to state law is only two days, but they hold them for three. Another animal control site I was on says they hold strays for four days.

I'm not sure how they are charging her with theft of mislaid property if she held them for the legal stray hold period?

There needs to be more information!

That place is RIDICULOUS! The second yorkie on the page is $2,000 because its medical bills cost $2,000. Pathetic. The rescue I am with just spent a little over $3,000 on an abandoned dog, thanks to donations, and his adoption fee will only be $250.

That's not adopting out. That's trying to get every penny you invested.

Grrrrrrr!
