Default Dental update!

So, I went in for my last consultation with the dentist today.

You all know I've stated I have HORRIBLE gums.

Well, he came in, and he said, "Actually, for not having gone to a dentist in 7 years, I am AMAZED at your teeth! That's where all your OC on teeth cleaning really did work well for you."

The gums? I have the very beginning stages of gum disease. Which is a LOT better than what I had thought. I have had very minimal bone loss which this cleaning will COMPLETELY stop. After this "stages cleaning" I will only need to go in twice a year for regular cleanings (I will be going THREE times a year for regular cleanings, though, that's MY decision).
"Stages cleaning" is where he will do my whole mouth in stages. I will go in, and they'll do an initial cleaning where it'll be simple, no numbing needed. I'll heal and then in 10 days, I'll come in for another cleaning. I'll heal for another 10 days, and so on and so on until I've gone in four times. It'll be complete in four visits.
He feels, I guess, that this is the best way for gums that are "out of shape". He said, if I'm out of shape, and I go and try to run a marathon, I'm going to be sore, sore, SORE!

What it is, and THIS people is WHY going to a dentist IS so vital. I have little spurs of bacteria, like a calcified bacteria, between my teeth because I haven't been to a dentist in so long to have my teeth cleaned. Once those are removed, I'll heal and be good. But he said that flossing right now is not really doing anything for my gums and teeth because those spurs and the tartar need to be removed.

I cannot even imagine if I had waited any longer to get into a dentist. Bone loss scared me when he said that, but he assured me that it's only in the VERY initial stages and that this deep cleaning will prevent it from getting any worse.

He was so awesome. SO awesome.
I am really happy and lucky to have found this dentist with my first phone call.

That's really good news Glad you were able to face your fear.

How'd you pick your dentist? I've never found one I was happy with since moving here.

Thanks, guys!

Cali,
I got lucky. Ben printed out a list of dentists in our area that take our dental insurance.
I had never been to him, my best friend's mom goes to him, so I called him.
And I just got lucky.

YOUr lucky you can go! IT is out for me, no insurance no way. Plus i have no immune system which raises the stakes on everything and tmj along with bone damage so i am screwed. I am glad you went and faced your fears.
