I recently came across some articles on the web that claim that fasting your dog regularly improves their health. I'm a bit skeptical of course, and thought I'd drop by to get other opinions.
Does anyone here fast their dogs? Do you do it regularly, or only when they get sick? Does anyone oppose fasting a dog?

I've never done it, but I know many raw feeders that do it once a week. I don't oppose the concept of fasting, either.

You know, it's interesting that you mention raw feeders, because the websites where I read about fasting also talked about feeding raw. Is there something special about feeding a raw diet that fasting would be necessary?

I dont really believe in it... not that I think it is bad but I really have to doubt that it has any benefits... if it doesnt have any benefits why prevent your dog from eating... would you fast for an entire day?
I would also worry that my dog would eat to quickly at the next meal. I feed my dogs the correct amount each meal and they are a perfect weight...they have no digestion problems, so I see no need for it. There have been times when one was very ill that we skipped a meal... but mostly we switch to a bland diet for a few days and then resume normal feeding. |
