Help with panther

Ok panther is potty trained and he minds sometimes but when on leash he pulls what can i do to break that ? He will be 4 months old jan 17 i think.

Stop until he quits pulling EVERY time he pulls. Even if it's every step you have to stop. Just something I've heard, all my dogs pull and I can't really do anything because I'm not around them enough/

stop when he starts to pull until he stops pulling, or just turn around and walk the oppisate way. He should learn quickly that pulling gets him no where!

I tried several different things, including stopping when he pulls and turning to go the other way and had Shye yanking me down the sidewalk for MONTHS. My mom gave me this idea to get a prong collar or my mom sent me a "command collar" that pinches less and clip the leash to that. The instant the lead gets taunt, I jerk back a bit on the leash and he stops pulling. It's taken literally five minutes to break my puller of pulling using the equipment I already bought to try and discourage him from pulling. The gagging sound he made every ten seconds was heartbreaking before... now he stays within a five foot radius on a six foot lead, no jerks required on my part.

I'm glad the prong and leash corrections work with your dog, but I would never suggest this to someone with a 4 month old puppy. First because it should be used as a last resort, and if the puppy is four months old you have not had enough time to train him sufficiently to decide that you need a last resort method already. Second, this age could be the puppy's fear stage, and you should never use punishment methods like this while the puppy is in a fear stage, it will cause bigger problems down the road.

If the turns and stopping don't work,and the OP feels like she needs different equipment to teach the dog, I would suggest a no pull harnes.

Ok, so, if the prong collar makes you nervous, then by all means... try other things. I did. I tried the stopping. I tried reversing my direction.... Shye just looked at me like I'd lost my mind and rushed to pull again. I tried a gentle leader head harness. I tried the halti. He ate them while we walked and sure he wasn't pulling while he was chewing them apart but that's cause he was chewing them apart.

My goal was to provide another alternative to throwing your hands up in frustration convinced you're going to have a puller forever. Although, if you are stuck with a forever puller.... GET AN ELLA'S LEAD!! Save your hands a TON of pain and pull burns.

Also, if done right, this shouldn't make the dog fearful. I snapped just a bit and the instant Shye quit pulling after the correction, I told him he was a good boy. Shye is my timid boy.... he's more likely to flop on his back when you go to pet him than anything else with his tail tucked tightly between his legs. He's become more confident after I started this method.
Now he knows what I want.
