I went through hundreds of possible names in the weeks leading up to getting Desoto and he was still nameless for the first few days. I decided on Desoto because I love classic cars and the history of the conquistador that the car was named after. It was also the first name that family/friends liked. People always think its an odd name until I explain, but I love it.

Bella
Bella was an oops baby. Her mom (our rescue Rottie Roxy) was due to be spayed in 3 weeks time and we had a male Rottie around at the time. She went on heat but didn't show any symptoms and even our male Simba (who passed away on 09/06/10) wasn't going crazy at all. We had an emergency (sickness and subsequent death in the family) and we left the dogs in the care of a gentleman who we have known for many years for about 3 weeks, and he works during the day so he just tended to them in the mornings before work and evenings after work. Anyway Roxy fell pregnant and we waited for her to have her pups and had her spayed 2 months after, I personally interviewed every single person who got a pup from me and I still keep REGULAR contact with all of them to make sure the dogs are fine and to make sure they know if the dogs ever need rehoming they should come back to me I also give them advice when they need some about the pup and if I don't know I refer them to someone. That said, we were there for Roxy when she went into labour. Bella was born 2nd. The first pup was still born and when Bella was born Roxy left her in the sac to die and ran to Simba's sleeping spot and had the rest of her puppies there. She had 5 in total, 4 girls and 1 boy. But even after having all the other pups she refused to take Bella whom I had to take out the sac and by then she stopped breathing so I rubbed her chest and eventually she started to breathe again, I took her back to Roxy on several occasions but she didn't want the pup. Bella wasn't meant to survive and she is now tiny for a Rottweiler weighing just 25kgs and she is the size of a small border collie. She has been to the vet a billion times as a pup because she was so ill. The fact that she was alive an well was a beautiful miracle and therefore her name is Bella because she is beautiful and it means beautiful.

Leo
We got Leo to help my dad fill the void after losing his boy Simba to kidney failure at the age of 14. My dad had rescued Simba from a man whose other dogs had gotten poisoned and Simba was the only Rottie remaining. The man pleaded with my dad to take Simba before he too was poisoned. So my dad took him. He was our first Rottweiler. My dad and Simba formed a special bond and when he passed away my dad cried for a week. Literally. I got Leo in October 2010, at 10 weeks. We thought long and hard for a name and eventually I came up with Leo. It was to honour Simba. Simba means lion, and so does Leo, also Leo's star sign is Leo so it fit perfectly, and the name stuck.

Domino.
When I adopted him he came with that name. We tried to change it, but it just seemed to fit. So Domino it stayed. He has a white dot on his black fur, and a black dot on his white fur.

Quinn was Quinn years before I got her. I decided when I got my first female BC I wanted to call her either Quinn or Sunny about 4 years ago. She is a total Quinn, I tossed up between Quinn and Monroe for a few seconds but she's not a Monroe. I would have called her Magpie if it wasn't for my name being Maggie but Quinn suits perfectly.

I own a mixed bred labrador and german shepherd. I name him chee-chee. The named sounded so girly. Lol. When he was a a puppy. He looks like a teddy bear, he'svery huggable. I named him after a teddy bear.

Sailen' Aero Hits the Mark

We chose the name "Aero" because we wanted a really good agility name - and I'm glad we did cos our boy is FAST! So, Aero came from Aerodynamic. Sailen' Acres is the ranch name of the breeders we got him from in Colorado. Hits the Mark refers to agility and such. So there is the story behind his name!

Other pets:
Banksy (female ferret - Banksy is a well known street art/graffiti artist)
Rocko (male ferret - from Rocko's Modern Life)
Shinx (female ferret - actually the name of a pokemon xD )
Nobu (male rescue kitteh - a name of a famous Japanese chef - also means truth)

My heart dog was called Akela. She was a young German Shepherd we found wandering on our road - clearly dumped and very lost. She was massive and black and moved just like a wolf, so we called her Akela after the wolf from The Jungle Book. I later found out that the name means "alone" which was very fitting, considering how we found her. Unfortunately we had to rehome her and I will forever regret that decision, but one day I'll have another black GSD and I'd like to call him Kipling, after Rudyard Kipling.

Our ACD is called Dally. We're horse people first and foremost so we wanted a western name and Dally had been one of our favorites for awhile. It suited her!

The new puppy still doesn't have a name, but I've been considering Quinn for her. This is going to make me sound super dorky, but my passion is Quarter Horse breeding, specifically cutting bloodlines. I wanted something related to that - first came up with "Lena" but already have a Lani and a Lizzy (horses) and I already get tongue tied with them so that would be way too confusing. Then came up with "Peppy" but it doesn't suit her. Finally came up with Quinn, after Quintan Blue, who is a very big name and well known cutting mare. I'm going to feel geeky if anyone ever asks, but deep down I like that it has personal meaning.
I just have to say that I LOVE all of the names you've picked for your dogs. I think if I'd seen this post before we named Violet, I would've named her Jasmine instead. I'm totally keeping that name for a future dog. I love Akela too, that's awesome. And I love the names Dally and Quinn, too.

I guess I should add Cara's name. Her name can mean friend, beloved, dearest, the beloved one depending on which language you choose. I think it's pretty self explanatory after that. :P

Mine is Lucky. His officail name by papers is "Holan Hardbread Mister Luck" (don't ask me what was in breeder's mind). So for us it was pretty simple.
