Default Forgetting He's Housebroken?

Okay, here's the setup with Oliver. He's four months old, and we had him (in my opinion) pretty much housebroken a month ago. He always let us know when he had to go, whether it was barking or whining at the door, he always peed and pooped outside, and rarely (every 2-3 days, maybe) he'd pee once in the kitchen.

Within the last week, he has almost completely stopped letting us know when he has to go out. He's peeing and pooping in the house like crazy. Earlier, I was playing ball with him in the living room, and he literally just started peeing out of nowhere - no warning, nothing. It's like within a few short days, he's forgotten everything we've taught him. I guess my question is a two-parter - A, is this normal? and B, what can we do to stop it?

I feel your pain...I don't claim to have Raika all the way potty trained, but we'll go a couple days with her doing really well, then all the sudden she's just peeing and pooping everywhere. We have french doors that separate our living room and dining room, so lately I've been closing those to keep her in the same room with me. It seems like the areas she's going in are getting smaller...like she used to go just anywhere, but now she'll only go in the kitchen or the upstairs. We have the upstairs blocked with a piece of plywood now. But let me tell you I am SO sick of mopping the kitchen floor. I probably do it twice a week and that's even after cleaning up pee areas with Lysol. It still smells like pee to me and I can't stand it. Good luck with him! I hope he remembers he's housebroken soon!

Your doggies are going through adolescence they seem to forget everything you taught them, and sometimes you need to go back to basics with them, put persevere and all will be ok

They tend to do that. No accident for a week then two in two days.

Just start over for a while with the basic training. And when you go there, keep her on leash, and make sure she pees before going in.

Have you been letting her out at the same time, or are you adding time to when you use to take her out? She needs to stay on a schedule. Also, cleaning your floors (even kitchen floors) with Lysol won't take the smell away to your dog. You need an enzymatic cleaner like Nature's Miracle or something like that-it takes the smell away to you and your dog.

my almost 1 year old dog is like that now. I swear his brain just completely fell out of his head. He has forgotten everything he has learned housebreaking wise. It is totally frustrating. He did the same thing with me though I was playing fetch with him and just no warning at all started to pee. I was SO mad at him. Just keep taking him outside and praising him and giving tasty treats to him. If he goes in the house just take him out right away and then either crate him or put him in another room and clean up the mess. It's best if your doggy doesn't see you clean it up. Don't yell at the dog after he messes in the house because he won't understand. He'll get better though, in time, just needs some gentle reminders of where he is suppose to and not suppose to go.
