Default How'd you get your kennel name?

I've been thinking about this lately for some reason. I guess looking at different breeders and kennel names has me thinking "How in the world did they come up with such a good name?!"

So breeders, how'd you come up with yours?

We named our " estate " Hawthorn Hills " because of a beautiful Hawthorn tree at the highest point .

Mine is in reference to Lord of the Rings. I spelled it uniquely to avoid copyright entanglements LOL.

I came up with my by way of Dal history with a twist to it. Dals are the ultimate carriage dogs and Gypsys used carriages. And it the criteria I was looking for, I wanted something short. Although I have yet to have a dal with my kennel name on it. I didn't come up with Gypsy until after I had Ivan for about a year.

Loki's registered name is UWPCH UAGI UCD 'PR' Matrix's I Defy Gravity CGC TT WDS. I named her before I had a kennel name to speak of. When it came time to think about what I'd be wanting to call myself, I was going to fashion something after my internet handle. Loki's breeder suggested that we use the Defy Gravity handle, but I thought that was too long. So Gravity we became. You can't see us, and unless you have a plane, you can't escape us. Bwa ha ha!

I took it from a science fiction book. It's a play on words on the word "honesty" (technically it's a place named by an ogre who couldn't spell) and since I'm an English major, it seemed to be ironically perfect!

I twisted a family name to make it sound more Scottish. I wasn't really keen on it at first, but wanted something to make a website with.

Then other breeders started linking to my site using the name. Then when I was serious about the choice, it seemed impossible to undo all the went with it. How glamorous.

I picked my kennel name from two different VINTAGE of a wine) and from the fact i wanted to keep incorporating old (vintage) bloodlines into my dogs to preserve the things i have and bring new things into them.

I think that the popular sire syndrome is leading us (boxer people) nowhere fast, and that revitalizing our breeding programs with the dogs from the 'back' of our pedigrees is going to put us farther ahead.

That is where i got it!

Mine was named for our Rat Terrier "KD". She passed away in my arms one night from something nobody could figure out what she had. I had just brought her home form the vet that afternoon and she is still with us under the oak tree in the front yard. It just seemed appropiate to name our kennels after her.
