Default Treats for dogs on bland diets

Hi.

I was just at the vet today with my puppy, who has an unset tummy. The vet said bland food only (gastro diet) and NO treats. I told him that she NEEEEEDS treats. She's just a pup and I have to use treats on a daily basis to let her know what is and isn't ok. She'd just run amock without them at this point!

He told me to add garlic powder to her dry food to make treats.

I didn't think there was a chance in hell she'd go for that, after having chicken and lamb jerky as treats. But no, she loves it! So I thought I'd share.

If your dog has an upset stomach and you're keeping her/his diet as bland as possible, wet some of their dry food (I did about a cup), let it get soft, then add some garlic powder (I did about a teaspoon). I put it all in a tupperware container, popped the lid on, shook it to get them all coated and gave her one and OMG, she LOVES it. Of course, you, your house and your dog will stink of garlic... But it's a good way to keep your pup happy when you have to keep their diet as lowkey as possible.

Of course, check with your own vet first. And don't be shocked if your dog turns her/his nose up at it. There's no accounting for tastes.

A perfect bland treat is ( people) rice cakes- none salted.. Its crunchy, basically harmless but bland.. You break them up into pieces..
