Default energetic puppy is chewing on everything...

I have the cutest boxer/pit bull mix and his little puppy eyes make me melt after he's been bad so i'm not tough enough on him when he tears things up. He's so much fun and we all enjoy him but the problem is, that he didn't used to have, is he's chewing on everything. We have tons of toys for him to play with but he would rather chew on rugs the couch my shoes and latley he runs and jumps in the air and comes down biting my jeans...he's already ruined 2 pairs. i know he's just playing and is a puppy but i don't know how to tell him he's playing to rough and or to get him to quit chewing on everything. I don't want him to be afraid of me, b/c when i raise my voice and get on to him he runs off with his tail between his legs. I love playing with him and i definatley don't want him scared of me...any suggestions on how to calmly make him understand he can't chew on everything would be grateful-thanks ashlee

Say a firm NO and give him a toy to chew on. Spray tons of bitter apple or no bite on the things you don't want him to chew. You'll probably have to tell him 100 times, but usually it works.

Our puppies like to chew too. We have some of the spray stuff but Jedi actually likes it so it isn't doing much good. Our puppy school teacher said for furniture to use vics vaporub. You put if on a piece of cardboard and tape it where you don't want them to bite. They don't like the smell so they stay away from it. We haven't done it yet so I don't know if it really works.
