Default gentle leaders?

What are people's feelings here on gentle leaders? The reason I ask is because both Mack and Hannah are HORRIBLE at pulling on their leash when we are walking. I have tried all kinds of choke chains on Mack and it doesn't even affect him, I have also tried harness on both and that doesn't help either. I have been looking into buying them for several weeks now and Hannah needs to do something because I can't even take her for a walk anymore that's how bad she pulls. I give all my dogs a chance to prove they don't need a choke chain or whatever and Shelby is good at not pulling and so is Maverick (for now). Would people suggest the use of them or is there a better way?

I have a gentle leader I bought for Tippy. She absolutely hates it. I think when used properly, they can work well, but not for every dog.

that is how we have been walking all of them since we got them home. Mack will get to the end of his leash and when you stop he will just keep pulling and actually will drag me. Hannah will just keep pulling as well and will be standing up on her hind legs because she's pulling so much.

I have been using a gentle halti on Katya for a few weeks now and it is absoutely wonderful. If you know how to properly use one and are consistent with the use and positive reinforcement they can be a very valuable training tool in my opinion. Before walking Katya was a nightmare, not knowing if I would be able to handle her if she aggressed someone or something. With the halti I have complete control of her at all times and we can enjoy our walks together. Just make sure you know how to use one properly so you don't injure the dog. I think they are a lot more humane than a pinch or choke collar. Once again this is my opinon on how it has worked for me, it is not for all people or all dogs.

Gentle leaders are great, I am a big fan!! If you decide to use them, be prepared that your dog may fight it and hate it at first. With a lot of praise, distraction and reward they eventually take to them very well. I really like these.

I guess I should note that I have never used one on a pug LOL!! I used them on our Great Dane and Rottie mix.

how is the correct way to use them? I've never really understood the concept except that it's suppose to keep them from pulling. If I was to go to Petsmart would I be able to trust their employees to help me size it correctly and show me how to use one?

Make sure you get the "gentle leader" and NOT the "Halti"...the halti works, but the gentle leader is made better, much more secure and adjusts to fit much better. The gentle leader can be purchased with a "how to" video.

can the dogs leave the gentle leader on in the house or is it strictly for walking only? I was hoping to use it for inside corrections as well
