This is my Nayda in her summer coat and in winter coat. I guess, I am the only Laika owner here. I introduced this breed in USA, starting from 1991.
Now, total number of West Siberian Laikas in North America is about 200 dogs, all belong to hunters and some are bred for hunters. We have a Laika Hunters Association of North America. This is a naturally treeing dog; it is good to hunt squirrels, raccoon, bobcat, gray fox, wild turkey, grouses and anything hiding on trees. It is good for moose hunting and will bay or tree bear. ![]() ![]()

Wow! Nayda is gorgeous!
I've never met a Laika in person... they seem like wonderful dogs, though, and they're stunning. : )

Both breeds have aboriginal roots among dogs of Siberia. Hunting Laikas occur across continental part of Siberia; sledddogs are mainly near sea cost and major rivers and in polar deserts further to the north. West Siberian Laikas had been always hunting dogs and their character is different, accordingly to their specialization. They zstart hunting very early, naturally, since age of 4 months. Here is one of my best pups. He is 4 m old here.
