Default Another pit bull attack

NOT! But this story is a prime example of why some of us are skeptical at times about such reported attacks.

Missouri sees second tiger attack in as many days

By BETSY TAYLOR, Associated Press Writer
Mon Aug 4, 6:37 PM ET

ST. LOUIS - Three tigers attacked a worker at an exotic animal park in southwestern Missouri on Monday the state's second tiger attack in as many days.

Stone County Sheriff Richard Hill said the tigers attacked a 16-year-old worker at Predator World in Branson West after he entered their cage to photograph the tigers for customers.

Employees managed to pull the teen from the cage before emergency responders arrived. He was airlifted to a Springfield hospital and was in critical condition, with injuries including punctures to his neck. His name was not released.

The tigers were "locked down" after the attack, Hill said. A woman who answered the phone at Predator World said she could only confirm that a staff member had been seriously injured.

The attack came a day after a tiger mauled a volunteer at the Wesa-A-Geh-Ya animal farm in Warrenton.

A roughly 800-pound tiger jumped an 8- to 10-foot gate and attacked the 26-year-old man who was trying to clean the tiger's cage, said Warren County Sheriff Kevin Harrison.

He said the owners and others at the facility tried to cover up what had happened by cleaning up the site and saying the victim had been attacked by a pit bull. Only later Sunday were authorities told what really happened and led to the tiger's carcass, which had been taken to another property, he said.

"They actively tried to cover it up and mislead us," said Harrison.

The volunteer, whose name was not released, had surgery on his leg and is expected to recover.

Sandra Smith, one of the owners, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that she had initially misled authorities because she feared the facility's animals would be euthanized if authorities learned the truth, the newspaper reported.

Harrison said no one from the animal facility had been charged and that the investigation was ongoing.

Wesa-A-Geh-Ya is owned by Smith and her husband, Kenneth, and means "Cat Lady" in Sandra Smith's native Cherokee language. The couple moved to Missouri in 1986 with a tiger and two cougars. The 17-acre site now holds dozens of animals on two acres, including wolves, a bear and "more lions and tigers than there are at the St. Louis Zoo," Harrison said.

In 2000, the Missouri Senate honored Wesa-A-Geh-Ya for housing the animals in harmony with the natural world. But in 2003, the Smiths surrendered their license to exhibit the animals, and it was later revoked, after the USDA said there were violations at the site, including gaps in fencing where lions and tigers lived.

You've GOT to . . . no, people are stupid enough to believe a tiger mauling was a dog mauling.

The stupidity factor just blows me away sometimes . . . especially when I'm sitting here with a little 42 pound pup snuggled up next to me, jumping up periodically to bark her challenge to the thunder that's rolling in, lol!

Whoa, that just crazy..but who in their right mind would let a 16-year-old into an enclosure with a wild animal like that? I mean, I get nervous when I let other people just pet Steve(my columbian boa).. =P

And then blaming it on a pit bull..tsk tsk..I mean seriously, there's a kid severly injured at a place called "Predator World" and they think someone is going to believe a pit bull just ran into their facility and attacked someone

A 7-yr-old boy was just attacked by 2 "pit bulls" that jumped a fence and bit him in the leg while he was outside.

Well, considering one of the dogs was 90 lbs and the other was approx. 130 lbs and neither looked like any of the "pit bull' breeds I'd ever seen, I'd bet money they were mutts. Oh yeah, and the boy's parents said they were "pit bulls" because they "know what pit bulls are those dogs are pit bulls." So that does it.......the experts have spoken. And of course it was on the news.....all 2 stitches of it.

Now, not only do I have to do PR damage control for my dogs when it's obvious my 30 & 40 lb dogs are nowhere near similar to those other dogs, but I've got to keep pushing my campaign for owner responsibility (those dogs should have never been behind a 4-ft chainlink fence....ever).

And I have yet to hear about that poor baby who died after being attacked by the lab pup (& most probably the pug too). Not one news station or newspaper has even mentioned it.

Yah, I get told quite frequently, by obvious experts , that Tallulah isn't big enough to be an APBT. Oh, and that her jaws lock and that she'll definitely turn on me . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SW1yxaV0gXU

130lb pit bull?

People always amaze me with their lack of education and ignorance. I use to be best friends with my neighbor and she had a APBT and she was the sweetest dog I've ever know..She and Samm got along wonderfully and if you were sitting down or laying down she's come right up and be your serucity blanket..It's too bad she moved away ;^;

The one thing I hated more then anything was when we'd take our dogs with us places, mainly camping last summer. These people came up near our campsite with all their camping stuff to make a campsite and then they saw Samm and Jelly(APBT) playing and the lady just about had a heartattack and peed her pants. I could see her pointing at the dogs to some guy and they talked for a bit and then turned around to go find another camping spot. And the place they picked was inbetween someone with 3 huge labs and someone with a german shepherd which councidently got into a fight that night..o_o
