Post Advice to the Novice Breeder-advertising

I have gotten so many Pvt emails and Im I feel I need a new topic.

First let it be known I would NOT be here if this site was haven to bad breeders. I only call home to sites that promote good breeding practices.

But I will offer the best advice I can to even the keel on topics.

1. Instead of worrying about future print adds get a website and maintain it forever a domain name is the start.
If you are going to be breeding anything and its way in the future.
And you have a kennel name? BUY IT NOW. http://www.godaddy.com
For 3.00 a month you can have a pic of your first dog and saying future home to such and such look for us at the SHow rings or the working trials whatever.
Never let it expire and when u r ready keep it going on all u do. Even list your mistakes.

2. Get a tel # you will NEVER lose not this ever changing cell numbers.
My interested buyers sometimes call me after 7 years of not speaking and say nice to know your site and your number NEVER changes!.

3. Get a bus card made up with the above and put your first dog as the background... I did that with my 3rd dog.
Dog lots of 50 cause when u title u want to list it .
Cheaper way make them up on your own computer.

4. Start a online diary something I never did this will help you with many issues and referrals.

5. Do Not associate with sites that promote bad breeders.
Stay here with Chaz if you dont know a good site from a bad.
If you find a site ask chazzers advice on the site.

6. Get out and make difference at BSL meets, Breeders education, and fund raisers for shelters. Be Carefull untill you are confident as a breeder do NOT mention you are a breeder at fund raiser you will be treated badly.

7. Buy books on k9 structure and your breeds history and temperament and breeding Know how I became close with the owner of the best and oldest Molosser site below? I out bid him in a old book Mammalia By William Jardine.. Run in circles of education..

9. Contact Dog World Dog fancy and take out a new add when they feature your breed, or rare breeds, or working breeds , or terriers etc.
The add should read announcing a new kid on the block AKC Champion Boo BO Baloo CGC TDI owned and handler by Mrs Smith and bred by etc.
No mention of litters cost is only 25.00 pet month

10. When u are ready to breed and have all the T crossed and I's dotted .
Health work show reg etc etc. Take out the once a year Dogs USA announcing your first litter. Pay extra for words like application required etc.
Cost about 225.00 around aug every year.

11. If you show UKC take out a add in the Bloodlines which gets you on the wesbsite announcing a new line of such and such.

12. Handle other breeds when u are ready in work or show , networking with Other breeders, collect tel numbers in the process.
You may need their advice come litter time.,
You will learn more from friends than any book you buy including breeding books.

13 Spend time networking your site once you have done much for your breeding. As we know if you site lack health testing and u announce it you will be attacked.

14. If you are using a outside stud - Find the best not always the top champion with high stud fees/ Research bloodlines pay extra for extended pedigrees, import if you have too, dont settle for the closest dog .
Sometimes the best selection can sell our your litter.
Research the line for any known defects and be prepared if you produce them.

15 Sound informed when the buyers call, recommend other breeds or breeders if you gut tells u this is not a home for one of your dogs.
Dont tell them off , dont deney them- educate them.

16 . Just touching on this the more work or show you do for your dog the more you network. I am not going to say how much any breed of dog needs exposure too other than my breed. That is up to you.
I left this at the end for a reason. Cause you do get people who fall in love with your dog the more you compete.

17 Join clubs breed clubs working clubs etc, however I wont say you need to do this to sell pups some clubs are very political. Again this is why this is last a option not a requirement.

If you still dont have homes after all this work, then take out litter announcements in the best place YOU feel for your dogs.
Just for a novice spend the extra per word to put in all work done and requirements for owners.
Example:
Central Asian Shepherd litter expected August 2008
1st UKC Grand , Canadian , Champion, FoxFIre Jlo CGC TT Excellent as per FCI
OFA Excellent OVC Clear
Multi Champion Cozemo CGC TDI TT FCI TAN Excellent as per FCI
OFA Good GDC Clear OVC Clear
Working dogs bred for function and longivity.
Application and fencing required.
Web site etc etc
NOTE THIS LITTER IS SOLD OUT!

Shorther cheaper version
Litter expected from Working , Health certified, Champion , Temperment tested guardian dogs.
Application and fencing required.
Contact info

If you are not networked or have the ability to ship and or retrieve dogs from around the country. Which is your duty as a breeder to take back your own.
Than a newspaper may be the best bet for local homes for home checks and for updates . And you will have the know how not to feel defensive if someone gets hold of the above add and visits your site.
What are they going to say BOO HOO you have done it all and still need homes. Maybe the market is flooded with expert breeders of your breed and you have to make your bones first . Thus you need to take out adds.

Okay this was strict about advertising not breeding or proving the dogs.
Hope this helps and I will get to replying to pvt emails asap today.

I am begging all that post on the previous threads do not attack the concepts behind the above by saying "I would never, I dont have to I I I I me SHE whatever".

If you reply please offer ADVICE to the new breeder NOT taking it personal in relation to what you have done or did not do.

TO each is own
