In some ways you are right, at least about the bragging rights that is. LOL!! On the other hand, the majority of conformation show people don't make money, in fact they loose money. It is very expensive to breed and show dogs. Only the top of the top that allow celebrities to "sponser" or "finance" their dogs are the ones that are making money and that is few and far between. Most of us do it for the love of the sport and the breed, and that's the honest truth despite what all the stereotypes are.

mostly everyone already said it..the point of showing is to promote your breeding..but there are all kinds of fun classes, obidience, hunters at field trials for bird dogs..lots of things u can do...Sheow showed her dogs earned Good Citizen which i think is just a lovely thing to do..let us know if you found something fun!

I do believe conformation is the ONLY one the dogs have to be intact. It is to promote the best of all breeds.....though through the years I feel that politics in the show ring has ruined some breeds.. e.g. the shorter legs in goldens, the feathering in spaniels that are making them look like moving mops ! I do know though that my friends that show their Goldens in conformation sure don't make money !!

Showing is deffinately partially for bragging rights too! I mean honestly, lets say you had a Am. Can. CH ***** who produced 3 Am. CH, 2 Can. CH and 6 Am. Can. CH and a Am. Can. CH Dog with a CDX and TD who sired 8 Am. Can. CH and 3 Can. CH and 5 Am, CH wouldn't you want to tell the world about what your kennel has produced? (sorry to anyone who doesn't understand what I wrote...Am.= American, Can. = Canadian, CH = Champion (have recieve ?8? points in the conformation ring), CDX = Citizen Dog Excellent, TD = Therapy Dog)

Hey I understand ! Though I never showed my dogs, their pedigrees over my 40 years had all these titles plus some you didn't state. BTW...CDX and TDs have nothing to do with conformation.... thus can be obtained if fixed.

That's right Bubba! CDX is obtained through obedience trials and TD is obtained after taking a test (it allows your dog to be a therapy dog and go into hospitals and retirement homes and such)

some breed clubs include groups for spayed/neutered animals in their specialty shows, but you can't show a dog to a champion title that way.
