Default Too much flea-tick prevention dangerous for puppies?

Hi,

I have two female Doberman mix puppies, 14 weeks old. I asked the vet for a flea-tick preventitive shot for our upcoming camping trip and he proceeded to give the puppies two shots. I asked why and he said, Ï didnīt realize that the first shot was for livestock, so the second shot I gave is for dogs and cats. What??? Their little systems are overloaded now with this stuff! Can that be dangerous? I donīt know what brand the shot was.....

I'd be calling to ask what was injected into your dogs. There was injectable heartworm meds for a while, till it was pulled from the market. I didn't think there was any injectable flea and tick control for dogs.

I don't know of any injectable flea/tick preventative... if i were you, I'd be calling the vet right away, asking what the heck he/she injected into those puppies!!! Eek!

Yikes! Thanks! I'm going to a different vet tomorrow with the card that the other one gave me. I hope he's better than the other guy! Thanks a lot for your response.

Did you get the name of the type of shot? Do some research online

This doesn't sound good. Too many products get used market tested outside the U.S. in places where they don't have to go through as many regulations and face lawsuits. Just because we haven't heard about injectables doesn't mean they aren't being used in other countries to be tested before they're run through the FDA here.
