Yes you are correct on never allowing your bird to be higher than you. I always try to discourage Reagan from going on my shoulder for that reason and because I don't need a trip to the ER for stiches on my face or ear. They need to know what their 'pecking' order is within the family/flock. Just as dogs do within the family/pack.

I noticed in the picture the cage seems kind of bare. You should get lots of diffrent toys to hang from the top, not just perches. I know birds can get bored very easily and need to be stimulated, so give him so toys to rip up

He's Adorable! He looks like a colorful parakeet, though I know he's not

that's not the cage and stuff that we bought for him. That's the cage that he lived in at the other people's house. We left him in the older cage for a day until he calmed down then we moved him into the cage that we bought for him.
