Default How often to feed

Our puppy is about 3 months old right now, and she LOVES to eat

Our 6 year old dog gets fed once per day in the evening and she's fine with that. Our puppy, wants to eat typically 4-5 times per day.. I'm trying to get her down to just once daily eventually, but am working on 2-3 times right now. She's at a healthy weight, but asks for food often.

She's a catahoula pup, and weighs probably about 15-20 pounds right now. How often and how much should I be feeding her?

I'm still feeding my 3 & 4 month old puppies 3 times a day. When they're about 6 months old, I will go to feeding twice a day. I'm a firm believer in feeding two meals a day, especially since I have German Shepherds which are especially prone to bloat.

Molly is almost 4 months old (May 28th) and she gets fed twice a day. I started feeding her according the charts on the puppy food bag but my vet said that was too much. He recommends 1 cup for every 10 pounds, roughly. At 24 pounds she gets a little over two cups now. I really can't do three feedings a day because I am at work all day. Two has always worked for her.

I agree with bnwalker as far as when to switch to two meals per day. I also believe in always feeding twice a day, it just makes sense to me.

As far as how much you're feeding your dog, it all depends on your individual dog (metabolism, breed, activity level, etc.), and on your brand of food. With lower quality food, you have to feed more because there's more waste products in the food - so they digest less and poop more. With higher quality foods, you don't have to feed as much. Puppies also do have to eat more than adult dogs, they're growing and need more calories. Basically just feed your dog the same amount every day, and adjust it depending on whether or not he gains/looses weight.

I started at three times a day, just because our puppy was so small in the beginning, but then moved it to twice a day. I think twice a day is the most convenient and most used time frame.
