Staffies are classed as dangerous animals in Ireland, have to be muzzled. So are the following:

Bulldog, Staffie, GSD, Akita, Ridgeback, Rottweiler, Tosa or Pit Bull.

Im suprised they can get them over here if thats the case.

I guess that part of the confusion is btwn the UK and the USA and that several breeds here are refered to as pitts one of which is the staff. I do hate that they generalize so much b/c any dog that we get into the rescue that even remotely looks like a bully bread is labled a pitt and we have a difficult time adopting them out. That's why we try to use their true names as in staff. When I was saying pitt were staffs I didn't mean a pitt terrier, but what is generall termed "pitt" in the US.
Sorry for the confussion.
Here shadow would be called a "pitt". W/ all the talk of banning them they are not talking of each specific breed but the general term of pitt so it actually means several breeds.

I'm more entitled to think that it's because of the ignorance of most people who work at shelters, to be honest. Like lots of dogs are called 'lab mixes' when they often have nothing to do with a lab (like Tips.. although I'm still not sure what breeds he was crossed with). So a dog that vaguely looks like a pitt is called a pitt mix, even if there isn't anything about a pitt in them.

It's not a critic, I myself wouldn't be able to distinguish a pitt from a staff, but it's really the impression I get when I see petfinder etc.

Wow, what are all the owners off pitt breeds gona do? Are they thinking of banning them in all states? I have been reading up on the European consitiution regarding banning breeds in europe, you should see the list, is is ridiculous, here's a link....

http://www.saveourbreeds.org.uk/breeds.htm

how long is that list, and the reasoning behind it! the people are insane.

I just had to add in my two cents being an owner of a registered APBT. It is my understanding from working with the UKC, ADBA, and AKC that a pitt can be cross registered to the AKC as an Amstaff. Now that people have been working harder to seperate the two breeds there are some differences. Staffies tend to be lower to the ground and more "bulky" looking than the pitts although many people are attempting to breed a HUGE pitt bull nowdays. My dog Neva is registered with the American Dog Breeders Association as an American Pit Bull Terrier and she is registered with the AKC as an American Staffordshire Terrier.

Who knows at this point here in Canada there has been alot of problems with the banning of pitbulls and now in couple cities they have to be muzzled when out. I live in Manitoba and it hasent hit us........yet it should'nt.
