Absolutely. I have the D40, and I used to have an HP (that thing SUCKED). I get MUCH better pictures with the D40. Including action shots. I'll find some action shots I have taken with my D40, and either post, or pm.

None of them are spectacular, I'm just going through photobucket pictures.
I have 2 more that are nice, but they're from when Holly was sick, and her fur was AWFUL. I will have to take some new action shots just for you, haha. :P

I love the pictures, despite the fact that her coat looks terrible. Looking at recent pictures, it's amazing how much better she is, now.

GORGEOUS PICS!!!! WOW!

Thank you for sharing those!
I CANNOT WAIT to use their camera. I promised to treat it nicely and be responsible with it.

I caught this one with the out of the box action setting on the D40x

Works great!

OOOO, nice pics!!! I gotta say I love my SLR Canon Digital Rebel XT, and my sister has the XTI. Both perfect cameras for our uses ... I'm a huge fan of canon though. Started with the rebel 35mm - loved that camera too. I have a pretty nice point and shoot for little things, it's a kodak that I was pleasantly surprised with.
Here are some shots with the XT.

SO...if I go to buy a BASIC Nikon D40 kit, I should be able to get great action shots (well better than any P&S), right? And I mean without any fancy schmancy lenses, right?
I have to ask this again because if I like the pics I take with my in-laws' camera, I'm going to buy one. But I won't be able to afford the $1700 they spent on their camera (they got three separate lenses with it). I will only get the basic kit. Should I get a back up battery or will I be ok just buying the kit?

EEEEK.
What's the difference between them all?
Which would you guys get?

I really don't want to go much over $500 at all. But I want great action shots. But I am not camera savvy, so which is best for me?

I couldn´t decided at the begining but went for Canon and I am not sorry.

I just hope that all pictures we posted won´t be found all over internet.. wouldn´t be the first time.
