Also another thing: statistics aren't that great. Someone uneducated about breeds could easily mistake an Elkhound or Belgian Malinois with a German shepherd.

I heard about an animal control that thought a samoyed was a pit bull. Big difference.

Yeah, and any dog that is so over represented in the population is sure to be over represented in all statistics. If any other dog was as popular as the german shepherd they would probably have pretty bad bite rates as well.

That makes sense. I don't know why I didn't think of this, when I met the girl who said this. She was the same girl who said that children are born evil. I can see why she would think this, but I don't find it the right word to use.
