My boyz have "green eye"
Is any body familiar with a green goopy discharge in the corner of dogs eyes. My one dog started with it a little over a week ago. I've been providing an eye wash using a saline solution and thought it was getting better. However, now all three of the boyz have it. Is this a contagious infection that will just run its course or will it just keep going around in circles until I take one of them to the vet?
 Any advice? Thank you.

Doesn't sound very healthy or nice for them, i'd definately recommend that you take all dogs to be checked over by a vet, if the others have caught what the one had then i'd take them all to be on the safe side.
Im sure it's nothing serious, like bubbatd said it could possibily be an infection causing the discharge and colour. Keep us informed of what the vet says  DP

for today if you can't get to the vet..go to your pharmacy and get some boric acid..wash the eyes out..using a different cotton ball for each eye so you don't spread it from one to the other with a proper mix of boric acid and warm water..do this according to the instructions on the package..tomorrow call your vet and tell him that your dog has conjuctivitis, he might not make you come in..and get some eye ointment..call around your friends and see if anybody has any eye ointment you can borrow for today..we have done that more then once around here..pink eye drops will do the same thing..any children in the family?forgot to add..make sure you wash your own hands well after handling the dogs and tell everyone to keep their own hands away from their face so it doesn't spread to you.

One trip to the vet is all we can handle today. Unfortunately, we had to put Ole' Bear down this morning. He was our oldest boy ~ he would have been 14 one month from today. The mobility in his legs finally gave out on him yesterday. Even though, we knew it was time, one of the hardest things to do is play God. We'll miss him. Sorry, didn't mean to get side tracked.
We'll it sounds like I've been trying doing all the right things. I had a feeling it was pink eye. I just wasn't sure if there was anything a vet can do for it. An eye ointment might do the trick. I will call my vet this week and get it taken care of. Ya know, my kids never even had pink eye when they were young ~ I can't believe my pups got it. Thank you very much for the advice. I'll keep you posted.

vet should have just handed to you while you were there..i am so sorry for your loss. and understand..warm compresses, just keep the eyes clean for today..and i would just call, i doubt you will have to take everybody in unless your vet just wants to make a profit...hopefully he will have a heart.

I really don't understand! Your 1st post was eye discharge and then your dog PTS !.Please fill us in !!! I'm sorry for your loss, but concerned about the other pups. Sorry that you didn't fill us in with other problems .Why did they put him down ???

Within the last week and half, all four of my dogs ended up with a discharge in their eyes which I now believe is conjuctivitis or pink eye.
At the same time, this past Saturday to be exact, our one dog Bear, a 14 year yellow lab, lost complete mobility in legs. We put him on a pretty strong medication (Dermax), but it just didn't work. Within 24 hours, he lost bladder control and no longer wanted to eat. He was in severe pain and we did not want to see him get any worse. Sunday morning, we made the agonizing decision to have him PTS. He was spoiled rotten and had a great life. Even though he was in a lot of pain, he wagged his tail to the very end. Now he is continuing to do what he did best...... Sleep. My other three, Sixer, Tyler, and Shiloh miss the old Lion King, but they tell me I still need to take care of their pink eye. Therefore, I came to this forum knowing it provides some of the best advice and I thank you all for that. In loving memory of Bear August 10, 1991 - July 10 2005

It sounds like you've got things under control.
I am so sorry about Bear. I had a Bear once too - A GSD/Akita mix snatched from death row at the pound. He broke my heart when he died too. I love the way you referred to your Bear as the old Lion King . . .
