no not old yeller. "far from home: yellow dog" is about a kid who lives in the US northwest, seattle maybe? on a farm of sorts and one day a yellow lab appears. he ends up keeping it and then goes camping or his dads boat sinks or something, and he is stranded in the coastal canadian wilderness. just him and his faithful companion. I think its a week or maybe a month, the dog helps him stay alive.
and rin tin tin is a series of tv shows and movies about a wwII german shepherd. rin tin tins popularity on the big and small screens were what lead to the german shepherds popularity boom. rintie is the iconic german shepherd, and also the iconic american dog, ranking up there with lassie.

sorry love4pits, somehow I missed it on your list. another good one is a far off place. two kids get lost n the african sahara with their rhodesian ridgeback. kavik the wolfdog is also a good movie.
if your reading white fang also read call of the wild, to make a fire, and kavik the wolf dog, and a book by sterling north (wrote rascal, about a pet raccon) called the wolfling.
