She won't go in the kennel

2 weeks ago I adopted a 4 year old lab/retreiver mix, she is awesome but I am having problem getting her to get in her kennel. She wasn't kennel trained when the foster parents took her in and they worked with her on it for a short period of time before I adopted her. For a week and a half I would say "get in your kennel" and she would go right in followed by a treat. Then all of a sudden she doesn't want to go in, she will just lay down wherever she is sitting. I try coaxing her with treats and that doesn't work. The only way I can get her in there is to pick her up and put her in front of the door. When she goes in I praise her and try to give her a treat but she won't even take it. I put in the treat before I close the door and the treat is still there when I let her out a couple hours later. All I get is sad eyes from her. Any suggestions? I don't keep her in the kennel for long periods of time.

I'd suggest calling the foster parents and asking them how they trained her to go in to begin with. It's certainly not uncommon for a dog to "forget" some training, especially after they've changed owners.

The foster parents that took her in said that the orginal owners dropped her off because she was going to the bathroom in the house. I guess they would leave her in the house all day while they were gone and she was never crate trained. She has only had 1 accident in the 3 weeks that I have had her. The foster parents only worked on her crate training for about 5 days before I got her.

I don't necessarilly have to have her in her kennel but I would like the option if the situation ever arises. It was like a switch went off where she just plain refuses to get in her kennel. I will keep working with her every day till we can get this right.

you can also try feeding her in her in the kennel... just be consistent with her training.
