Hm...

I always thought her Golden puppies were from a rescue. D= I heard that somewhere.

I hope Oprah mentions something about where her own dogs are from. Puppy mills are horrible, but so are backyard breeders; they're just much less sensationalized and villified. Hopefully the show will actually educate people on what makes a reputable breeder!

Well, if worse comes to worse bybs are a step up from mills.

I'm hoping they talk about reputable breeders but I'm hoping MORE that they talk about rescue dogs.

It's really my big issue about anti puppy mill campaigns... it's good, sure, but they really need to educate about why it's important to find a good breeder too... and so far I have yet to see a puppy mill campaign mention BYBs... so uninformed people just go there... Seriously, a lot of people know about puppy mills and wouldn't buy from a pet store, and yet they get their puppies from newspaper ads. *shrug*

I hear that, Fran.

I don't think I have EVER seen substantial tips on finding a reputable breeder on any show, or popular website, or newspaper article, etc.

I am all for rescue... but, unfortunately, a lot of people see rescue dogs as "damaged goods"... and many people would just rather buy a puppy. It'd be awesome if good advice was actually put out there!

there is someone around here that is a byb that has had chi mixes like clockwork litter after litter. They sell them for a 100 dollars. IF they are a step up, it would be a baby step only in maybe the dog gets more attention.

I believe the person she got her Goldens from is a bit more than a BYB as I believe AKC an Animal Control, was involved with them prior.

Again one can only hope some mention of that will be made and some mention of learning beforehand and doing research etc.

Sandar Goldens is where they came from.
